For kite landboarding: riders over 85 kg or aiming for speed and distance should go for spring-loaded channel trucks (MBS Matrix, Trampa Urban). They handle high-speed gusts and rough terrain better than skate-type trucks. Lighter riders and beginners will find skate trucks a better match: lighter, more manoeuvrable, easier to learn on.

For freestyle and downhill freeride: spring-loaded "Channel" trucks give you greater stability at speed, more precise cornering and better cushioning on rough terrain. Kids can start on entry-level complete boards, more than enough to learn the basics on a gentle slope.

What size power kite do I need for mountainboarding?
On flat terrain (field, beach, airstrip), a 6 to 9 m² power kite covers most wind conditions (15 to 25 km/h). Heavier riders (85 kg+) should lean toward 9 to 12 m². On slopes, a 3 to 6 m² trainer kite gives enough pull to get moving while staying manageable. See our full power kite selection.

Mountainboard or landboard, what's the difference?
The two terms are used interchangeably. A mountainboard is built for off-road use: large pneumatic tyres, foot bindings, and spring or skate trucks. A landboard is the same board used for kite traction on flat terrain. Every board in this category works for both.

Can I use a kitesurfing kite for mountainboarding?
Yes, a standard LEI kite works on land, but it's harder to manage in gusty conditions. Most land riders prefer foil kites or bridled power kites, which depower more predictably and are easier to re-launch if you crash. Check our power kites for kite-specific recommendations.

How long does it take to learn kite mountainboarding?
With basic kite control already in place, most beginners are riding on flat terrain within 1 or 2 sessions. Riding on slopes with confidence takes 5 to 10 sessions. A lesson with a certified instructor cuts that curve significantly.
